1999年4月20日两个哥伦比亚高中学生冲进校园，用半自动武器、鸟枪和一批爆炸物杀死了1位老师，12名学生，然后自杀。另有26人受伤。

当日11时19分，两名学生来到校外。其中一名大叫“出来！出来！”并当即向5名学生射击，造成两人死亡。随后，持枪者向门窗射击并将自制的炸弹扔上房顶。持枪者随之进入图书馆进行屠杀。最后两名凶手自杀身亡。

哥伦比亚高中惨案美国历史上最严重的枪击事件。
